Get to know Auckland, City of Sails, with a half-day city highlights tour followed by a Hauraki Gulf harbour cruise.
Travel through the city centre and over the Auckland Harbour Bridge, enjoying views back to the city from the North Shore. Visit the Viaduct Harbour and Auckland's famous Queen Street before continuing to the Auckland Domain. The Domain is the city's oldest park, situated on a 62,000 year-old extinct volcano. Within its 75 hectares are tropical gardens, duck ponds and public art, as well as the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
We stop for a short morning tea break (own expense) in Parnell Village, where heritage buildings house a range of boutiques, craft and specialty shops. Next, journey along Tamaki Drive on the waterfront to Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park, located on a hill above the waterfront. Named after one of New Zealand's best-loved Prime Ministers, the park offers panoramic views of the city and harbour.
After returning to downtown Auckland, board your boat tour of the Waitemata Harbour. As you sail, the crew will provide a knowledgeable commentary about the city and its landmarks. Keep an eye out for Devonport's historic naval base and the Bean Rock Lighthouse. A brief stopover is included at volcanic Rangitoto Island. This distinctive Auckland landmark, formed by a series of eruptions around 600 years ago, is a thriving nature reserve as well as a popular day-trip destination.
